Alexa, Let’s Talk
We can use voice command technology to give stroke survivors their voice again.
Studies have shown that 1 in 3 stroke survivors do not seek rehabilitation. There are many factors, however one of the main factors is that the experience as a whole, is incredibly daunting to the patient. To help our fight to aide stroke survivors in their journey to rehabilitation, we had the idea to announce a partnership with Amazon to use the world’s most popular voice assistant as a part time Caregiver. ‘Let’s Talk’ is the American Stroke Association’s fully functioning platform on the Amazon Echo, dedicated to conducting therapy sessions with the user. Now, the first steps of rehabilitation can take place in the comfort of their own home.
Talking with Alexa
One of the main functions Alexa will be able to perform, is speech therapy. She will be able to give you a series of phrases to practice with her. She will coach you until you say the phrase correctly. Also there’s built in skill that allows Alexa to acknowledge melodic commands. This way, stroke survivors with trouble speaking can sing, ‘Alexa, Let’s Talk…’
Encouraging Stroke Survivors
Stroke survivors can experience variety of debilitating conditions after the event. Although, Aphasia is among the most common we set out to release social content that targeted each disability. Our content series was a pledge from survivors to reach there goal. We were there to help along the way.
